Reasons why you must make your accessory list before you start your small bathroom remodeling project

It's so important to make a bathroom accessory and shower curtain list before you start work on your new bathroom design, especially if you have a small bathroom.

This is the task that most people put off until the last minute because it doesn't seem important when you are making decisions about building work and bathroom fixtures. Lets take a look at some of the reasons why putting it off is a bad idea and why you might wish you had paid more attention to it at the start.

Are your accessories going to match your fixtures?

If you don't make your bathroom accessory list at the start of your project how will you know whether the fixtures that you order will match with your style in accessories? You might find that the stainless steel bathroom accessory look that you grow to love later in the project simply doesn't go with the style and colour of the bathtub, toilet and other fixtures that you chose weeks ago.

Take time in the design stage of your remodeling project to really understand the whole picture. Make sure that you have considered every little detail including matching accessories to fixtures.

Will the matching accessories be available when you go to buy?

Perhaps you did pick out the accessories at the same time that you chose the big stuff but you decided not to purchase them at the time. There's plenty of time to get them after all but you might find that the brass bathroom accessory that you had picked out has been made obsolete by the manufacturer and is no longer available. What do you do then?

Whenever you can buy everything together at the same time. That way you have the best chance of it all matching and you know that it's available when you order it.

Are you sure that you have enough room for the bathroom accessories?

Will that large ceramic bathroom accessory fit in your small bathroom when you have installed the fixtures? Even though it's an accessory and in theory could go anywhere, you might find that you need to think about leaving some floor or wall space for it in the bathroom design.

Lets take the toilet roll holder as an example. You've picked out a wall-mounted piece but have you thought about where it's going to be fixed on the wall? I know of more than one small bathroom-remodeling project that neglected to consider this. When everything had been fitted and the bathroom looked lovely someone says "where's the toilet roll then?"

I fell into this trap when I remodeled my own small bathroom. Everything was great except that the only place to put the toilet roll holder was on the wall behind the toilet. Not a very practical place for it as you can imagine. I solved the problem in the end by using a freestanding holder that I could move around. This worked out quite well in the end but it would have been nice to have had the choice.

Your bathroom accessory and shower curtain list isn't as important and crucial as some of the other decisions you have to make at the start of your small bathroom remodeling project but a little thought and action at the start can save you a lot of time, energy and money later on.
