The HTC One Mini launched last week and we’ve been tinkering with the handset ever since. On the whole it is a very impressive piece of kit, although not everybody – well, Forbes’ Sharif Sakr, at least – is so enamoured by the more affordable version of the market-leading HTC One.

The main crux of Sakr’s argument seems to be that the HTC One Mini should have been launched with comparable – or the same specs – as the HTC One, something that would have resulted in a dramatically higher price tag for the handset.

‘Just like Samsung with the GS4 Mini (and GS3 Mini before that), it made the utterly counter-intuitive assumption that people who want a small smartphone also want a lower-cost smartphone — despite the fact that over 12 million people every month lavish vast sums on 4-inch iPhones,’ wrote Sakr.

But what would be the point? Launching a smaller version of the HTC One with the same specs and the same price sounds like an inherently more risky strategy than attacking a lower price point.

In a world dominated by Samsung and Apple, firms like HTC have to re-build their brand off the back of solid releases and high-end engineering. To a certain extent HTC is already well on the way to doing this, with decent sales and positive reviews for its HTC One.

The strategy with the HTC One Mini seems to be to build on from the HTC One and offer a handset that costs less – because there’s demand for them too, you know – with scrimping too much on the core features that made the original so good in the first place. In the oversaturated market for Wholesale Cheap Leather Cases for iPhone 5,

BoomSound, Ultra Pixel camera tech, BlinkFeed, and Sense 5 – sans IR Blaster – all made it across to the HTC One Mini. Some would argue that these aspects, for the most part, are more important than having the latest chipsets or full HD displays, especially with Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 400 CPU powering everything along.

Sakr acknowledges this about the HTC One Mini, describing it as ‘almost premium.’ Talking more generally, he added: ‘But these specs have been compromised by a less impressive design, which loses the One’s chamfered edges and much of its aluminum in favor of a cheaper plastic border, as well as by a cut-down Snapdragon 400 processor that won’t accomplish compute- or graphics-heavy tasks as snappily as the One does.’

The HTC One Mini’s 16GB of storage and lack of microSD-support are also lamented, as is HTC’s wider policy of simply excluding microSD from its newer handsets – both of which are excellent points.

‘If you want something equally well-designed and high-powered, but in a smaller frame that will leave your opposable digit safely in its socket, you still have no choice but to buy an iPhone 5,’ concludes Sakr.low-cost Wholesale Cheap Back Covers for iPhone 4S have made the rounds on the web.

“iPhone 5 appears to have settled in at about half of all iPhone sales, nine months after its initial launch,” CIRP told AppleInsider, adding that the handset falls short when compared to the 4S. While the iPhone 5 peaked at 70 percent, the 4S hit 90 percent in the period immediately following its launch. Almost a year later, the 4S still took up about 75 percent of iPhone sales, while the 5 has already dipped down to 52 percent just nine months after its release.
